I chose to review Old Spice's Super Bowl ad "Irresistible" because I enjoyed its comedy. The ad's message is, at its core, that using Old Spice will make you seductive, intriguing, and sexy; and will help you get beautiful women and fast cars. It's communicated straightforwardly, featuring a man wearing Old Spice Wolfthorn, and a woman who is "afraid. Then, I was seduced. Then intrigued. Then in the car."
The main design feature that made this ad interesting was the use of images to portray scent. In this case, the man had a pair of wolves riding on him, one on each shoulder, to show the smell of the new flavor of Old Spice. In the images I have selected above, the can of Old Spice is almost perfect center in the frame, and both characters are looking towards it. This highlights how important the Old Spice was to this timeless romance.
This commercial is an example of outstanding audio/visual communication in that it uses novelty combined with simple and powerful design techniques to portray its product in a positive light.
